Liquid Automation was engaged to modernize and future-proof the yacht’s lighting and automation systems by replacing the obsolete Light Touch lighting control infrastructure with a marine-grade Lutron lighting control system. The upgrade included comprehensive integration with the existing Crestron automation platform, ensuring seamless control across all onboard environments.

Control System

The vessel’s automation is driven by Crestron, programmed and commissioned by Liquid Automation.

This upgrade replaces the previous proprietary overlay with a native Crestron environment, enhancing speed, reliability, and maintainability while reducing hardware footprint.

The Crestron system centrally manages:

  • Lighting (119 circuits)

  • Control of Blinds and Shades (49 shades)

  • Documentation pack

System Replacement

  • Legacy System: The Original Light Touch system had become unsupported and unreliable, with limited replacement parts and outdated interface technology.

  • New System: Full replacement with a Lutron HomeWorks QS (marine-rated) platform designed for high reliability in maritime environments.

  • Lighting Circuits: Over 110 individual lighting circuits were migrated, labelled, and commissioned.

  • Window Treatments: Integration of 49 motorised blinds, shades, and skylights, now controllable via the Lutron and Crestron user interfaces.

Integration & Programming

  • Reprogrammed and re-engineered the Crestron control system throughout the entire vessel to ensure full compatibility with the new Lutron backbone.

  • Created custom scene presets and logical grouping for improved usability and energy efficiency.

  • Enhanced touchscreen and mobile interfaces for intuitive guest and crew control.

Documentation & Deliverables

  • Produced comprehensive documentation, including:

    • Full system schematics and wiring diagrams

    • Updated rack elevations and circuit schedules

    • Programming flow charts and integration topology

    • Detailed as-built drawings for long-term maintenance and service

  • All documentation conforms to Liquid Automation’s award-winning documentation standards, ensuring clarity for future refit or service work.

Outcome

The new system delivers a robust, scalable, and serviceable lighting and automation solution that restores full reliability and a modern user experience onboard. The integration of Lutron and Crestron offers enhanced performance, future supportability, and a refined control experience that aligns with today’s superyacht standards.
