S/Y Vertigo
67.2 meters (220 feet) Alloy Yachts
Project Location: La Ciota, France
Liquid Automation completed a major technology upgrade for S/Y Vertigo in the South of France. We overhauled The AV /IT / Lighting & Window Control / CCTV and update our Navigation Glass Bridge.
Control System
The vessel’s automation is driven by Crestron, programmed and commissioned by Liquid Automation.
This upgrade replaces the previous proprietary overlay with a native Crestron environment, enhancing speed, reliability, and maintainability while reducing hardware footprint.
The Crestron system centrally intergrates to:
Audio / Video Distribution
Lighting
Blinds and Shades
Mast Camera
Automation
Power monitoring and control
Hot water ring mains
Glass Bridge Navigation
The Liquid Priority Control Module (LPC) is integral to the Crestron management system on S/Y Vertigo. It provides real-time feedback on shared source usage, preventing conflicts and ensuring seamless source selection across all audio/video areas.
User Interfaces
The user interfaces implemented for the S/Y Vertigo technology upgrade include a combination of dedicated touch screens, handheld remotes, and existing keypads.
The interfaces are as follows:
Crestron TSR-310 wireless remotes: 6 units
Crestron TSR-1070 Touch Screen (Replacement): 2 units
Crestron HR Handheld Remote (Model: HR-150): 3 areas.
Apple TV: 12 units
Video Distribution
Video distribution is managed via Crestron Digital Media (NVX) for real-time, high-performance 4K UHD content delivery over IP networking from 14 sources to 8 A/V areas.
Key Video Features
Outdoor Projection screen.
High power Masthead mounted PTZ mounted on a custom stabilized mount.
Video distribution over fiber and copper.
Custom marine TV lift installed that raises and swivelels
Intergration into the Navigation system
4K UHD video switching capabilities.
Video, Audio, and Control are delivered to each area via a single cable.
Quick switching between sources.
Saloon large format wallpaper screen is 3.85mm thick.
Audio Distribution
Audio distribution uses the Crestron DM NAX platform complimented with Storm audio and Crown, providing loads of power, and flexability with streaming apps and IP audio .
Key Audio Features
Master bedroom surround sound efect follows the direction of the TV automatically when swiveling.
Perminent Nightclub SPL levels in the Saloon Cockpit and Owners suite.
Liquid Zone Linking for combining audio and video in differant areas, i.e Saloon, aft deck, cockpit, flybridge, dining , school
Removable nightclub SPL speakers for the aft deck.
DJ Inputs with NAX digital audio transmitters.
Lighting, Window treatments
The yacht's enviromental controls are jointly controled over the Crestron and Lutron systems allowing unified device to control seamless operations with the audio visual systems. Accessible from either the Light switch Keypads or dedicated wireless touch screens and iPads.
The existing Lutron Lighting keypads are retained, providing quick, simple control for the Lighting, Blinds and Louvers.
Implemented in a cabin the ensuite lights can be set to 10% brightness to act as a night light, triggered directly from the bedside touch screen.
Network Infrastructure
The network infrastructure was fundamentally upgraded to an enterprise-grade solution using fibre links for the wired backbone, to support all media and control traffic. This robust system utilises managed switching to enforce security and reliability across the vessel.
Network Design Features
Bonjour and Casting gateways to allow managing casting names to the dedicated Vlans, i.e Owners only see there suite and common areas.
Wired Backbone: High-speed 10Gbps+ fibre links were used between core switches.
VLAN Segmentation: Services were separated into 10 virtual subnets for security, Media and isolating entertainment from ship networks.
Wireless Networking: The Wi-Fi system was upgraded to a Wi-Fi 6 system with 3 x SSIDs Guest, Owner and Crew.
PoE+ Switching: All switches are Power over Ethernet (PoE+) compatible, enabling remote maintenance and power cycling of equipment
Equipment Racks and Power Management
10 x Equipment racks were built using high-quality components and designed for seamless installation and remote management. IP-controlled power boards facilitate off-site reboots. The system actively monitors temperature and humidity to prevent damage to equipment.
Each Rack Includes:
Pre bult and commitioned in New Zealand for efficient install in France
IP-controlled power boards for remote management.
Crestron temperature and humidity sensors.
Predefined set point to trigger an overheating alert.
Automatic equipment shutdown if the temperature reaches a second set point.
High-quality Middle Atlantic racks.
Domotz Monitoring
Key Features
Priority Control: Implements the "Liquid Priority Control Module" for real-time feedback on shared source usage, preventing conflicts and locking out controls when a source is in use.
ETO Module: Direct from the interface the ETO can view equipment status, POE power use, and reboot if required.
Hot Water ring main monitoring: Allows for a simple way the Chief engineer can monitor the incoming and outgoing water tempurtures and alert if the user defind high and low set points are met.
High-Speed Network: Network infrastructure upgraded using fibre links instead of copper, achieving speeds of 10Gbps+.
Network Security: Uses Layer 3 managed switches to isolate entertainment VLANs from critical ship networks effectively.
Navigation Integration: NMEA Navigation info (Boat Speed, Wind Speed, Water Temp, and Wind Direction) is displayed directly on all Crestron touch panels.
Owner/Charter Mode: Touch panels allow selection between Owner and Charter modes, switching media account log ins for apple TV’s. globel radio station presets, video databases and more.
Mast Camera: The long-range PTZ camera was installed on a custom stabilised mount, with control and viewing available from all guest and crew areas, The Bridge helm has an override and will alert each area that the Captain has control.
Master Cabin Specialisation: The TV lifter was replaced with a quiet, raise-and-twist model, and the stereo sound image follows the viewing angle of the lifter.
Rack Safety: Racks include an internal sensor that triggers an alert if the temperature exceeds a set point and automatically shuts down equipment at a second set point to prevent thermal damage.
Support: Includes one full year of 24/7 off-site monitoring and support package.
